Earth Day Savings Are Coming – Save Your Empties

Meet Our Newest Addition: Dr. Jennifer Peterson!

Suzanne Bruce and Associates would like to introduce you to our newest family member: Dr. Jennifer Peterson. She will be practicing out of our Katy/Cinco Ranch location.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?  I am a native Houstonian! I grew up on the north side of town in the Champions area and then attended college at Texas A&M University in College Station.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO INTO DERMATOLOGY?  Honestly, it is a fun specialty. There are so many features of dermatology that initially drew me in: being able to care for patients of all ages and seeing patients both in the clinic and procedural settings. Lastly, I have a history of eczema and hives, so I have experienced first hand the changes to a person’s quality of life a dermatologist can make.

WHAT ASPECTS DO YOU LOVE?  I love dermatologic cosmetic surgery and research. This passion drove me to spend an extra year of training after my dermatology residency in a cosmetic dermatologic surgery program through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in La Jolla, CA. It’s amazing how many advances have occurred in laser surgery over the past 5-10 years. It is an exciting time to be a dermatologist.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIVE YOUR STYLE AS A DOCTOR?  I enjoy providing my patients with a warm and friendly environment so that they may feel more comfortable and at ease. I also like to be on the cutting edge of new treatments and technologies. This is why I enjoy research so much. I don’t only want my patients to have new treatments available to them; I want them to have new treatments that are proven to be safe and effective.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING AND WHERE?  I finished my dermatology residency in Lubbock, Texas in 2009. Later that year I became a board certified dermatologist through the American Board of Dermatology and was privileged to be accepted in to a prestigious cosmetic surgery fellowship in La Jolla, CA.  I loved my time in La Jolla where I was able to pursue my dream of training with some of the world’s leaders in laser therapy, leg veins, injectable fillers, and liposuction, but I always knew I wanted to come back to Texas. I moved back to Houston in 2011 and have been practicing since then.  In 2012, I earned my second board certification in cosmetic dermatologic surgery through the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

HAVE YOU DONE ANY RESEARCH?  I have been fortunate to participate in over 25 clinical research trials on acne, rosacea, laser surgery, injectable fillers and botulinium products, liposuction, fat transfer, skin care products, and sclerotherapy. One of my favorite projects was treating patients with severe burn scars with fractionated CO2 laser assisted steroid delivery. It was so rewarding for me to be able to not only help these patients improve the texture and appearance of their scars but also improve their scar’s function giving the patients more flexibility and functionality in their daily routines.

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL MOTTO?  Never stop learning and do your best.

SOMETHING YOU FEEL PASSIONATE ABOUT…  I love spending time with my husband, family, friends and our two Great Danes. I practice aerial fabric where aerial acrobatics are performed while hanging from two pieces of silk fabric. And since I was a child, I have always been a huge lover of horses and dressage horseback riding.

A Younger, Fresher You!

Ultherapy is an innovative therapy that is used to firm, tighten and lift the skin without surgery or downtime.  It uses ultrasound energy that is focused at different depths below the surface of the skin in order to build new collagen in the skin which is the key to firming, tightening and lifting.  You’ll feel a difference immediately, but the majority of your improvement will occur over the next 6 months as new collagen forms.

Originally when Ultherapy came on the market in 2011 we used it only on the face and neck.  Now with our experience performing over 400 treatments and new device heads allowing us to reach new depths, we are treating in areas off the face with great success, including chest, arms, abdomens and above the knees.

If you are interested in learning more about giving your face or other areas a lift without surgery, then be sure to attend our seminar on October 31st at 12 p.m., where we will be offering special discounts to attendees, or you can schedule a consultation with one of our dermatologists or other Ultherapy providers.

To learn more about our lunch event on October 31st, you can either click here or call 713.850.0240 x172. If you would like to attend, please email with your name and phone number in the body of the email.

This Or That?

Have you been dancing with the idea of trying dermal fillers or two-stepping with the thought of Thermage®? Truthfully, there are A LOT of options out there when it comes to cosmetic procedures. But how do you know which one is right for you?

When it comes to big purchases and important decisions – most of us go through the typical routine:

  • Getting a new laptop? You probably visited Best Buy or Apple once or twice before heading up to the cashier.
  • Buying a Car? Most of us start on the internet; researching safety features, gas mileage & price before we even step foot on a lot with the intention to buy.
  • Taking a Vacation? It’s doubtful that you packed the car and pulled out your handy dandy paper road map, unfolded it and decided your route on the spot. Vacations take planning. While it’s even easier now-GPS, smartphones and Expedia do most of the work, but there are still decisions to be made.

Cosmetic procedures are no different. This is where our consultations come in. Most of us know the things about ourselves we’d like to change: the crepey skin on our knees or hands, the crow’s feet beginning to branch further and further out, or even the jawline that has seemed to start sagging. A consultation is the best time to discuss the concerns about your appearance that you’d like to address. Then a provider can suggest the best procedure or course of action and have you looking better in no time.

Plus when it comes to consultations, we’ve had years of experience to make the process as informative, useful and stress-free as possible. We also have 5 Patient Care Coordinators, which assist the providers and patients during and after the consultation. They make sure you have everything you may need, such as prescriptions, handouts, brochures or addressing any additional questions you may have. We recently implemented a new technical system called TouchMD®. It’s a portable touch screen that allows you to watch videos, sign paper work, see before and after’s, and interact with pictures and diagrams during the consult. The really wonderful thing about this system is you can even access it from home! We also make sure you have plenty of information to take home. Our handouts and brochures detail everything you might need to know about a procedure including cost, side effects and downtime. So even while at home, answers to your questions are close by.

We realize the importance and time it takes to decide. We encourage you to take all the information home and want you to think about it. Discuss it with your loved ones. Our best outcomes are when the patient feels comfortable with the procedure and excited about the outcomes. Our cosmetic consultations cost $85; however, this will be applied as a credit towards the cost of the procedure – if you schedule your procedure within 90 days. This month (August) we are offering FREE cosmetic consultations on Mondays and Tuesdays, all month long. So come and explore everything from facial rejuvenation to body sculpting – it’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss!

Stop by our office, so you can learn how to fandango with Fraxel® or mambo with miraDry®.

Introducing SRT at Suzanne Bruce & Associates

Cancer. It’s one of those words that is heard and sends chills down people’s spines. Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 2 million people diagnosed annually(1). There are three basic types of cancerous skin cells: Basel Cells, Squamous and Melanoma. Until recently, the main treatment option for removing non-melanoma skin cancer was to surgically remove the cancerous tissue and a surrounding margin of healthy skin, which can often lead to unsightly scars. Now, there is a better option called Superficial Radiation Therapy, or SRT for short. With an equivalent cure rate as surgery, its really an exciting option for those looking to avoid surgery, pain, anesthesia and of course scars.

SRT is a low energy radiotherapy that goes no deeper than the thickness of the skin. It is a proven non-invasive procedure that has been used to treat non-melanoma skin cancer for over 50 years. Until now this device has been large and nearly immobile, only available in large hospitals. We are happy to announce that we one of just a handful of doctor’s offices in Texas, and the only office in Houston, who have the modern solution, the more portable and compact SRT-100. It is just as safe, painless, and effective as its larger sibling, but now it’s available at a convenient location for you, Suzanne Bruce and Associates.

Have a history of diagnosed non-melanoma skin cancers? This may prove to be something great for you, come in and see one of our doctors to see if the SRT-100 is right for you.

Finally a Convenient Way to Rejuvenate Thinning Hair!

Don’t let its look fool you. This hair rejuvenation system means business. Backed by a 6 month money back guarantee* the iGrow hair rejuvenation system is the world’s most advanced at-home laser hair therapy system for fuller, thicker, healthier hair

Did You Know? Hair loss, also known as alopecia, affects about 80 million men and women in the United States. The most common cause of hair loss is a medical condition called hereditary hair loss more commonly referred to as male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. Luckily most causes of hair loss can be stopped or treated.

How iGrow™ works? When hair becomes unhealthy or begins to suffer from age, men and women’s hair follicles start shrinking. With each cycle the hair they produce gets smaller and thinner. But before the hair follicles lose the ability to produce hair all together, hair regrowth can occur. Using a method known as low level laser therapy or LLLT, hair rejuvenation is now obtainable.

LLLT combined with LED light therapy works in harmony to regrow hair follicles. Cells absorb the light and use it to repair themselves, grow or multiply, making your existing hair appear fuller, thicker and healthier.  Since 1984 hundreds of clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of LLLT.

Until now this technology has been limited to the use of in a clinic setting with a hair specialist.  Monthly, sometimes weekly, visits to the doctor’s office were required to see results. That’s why we are excited to introduce iGrow. The iGrow is the world’s most advanced at- home laser hair therapy system for fuller, thicker, healthier hair. Plus an affordable option compared to monthly bills for topicals, shampoos, prescriptions and doctor visits.

Sit Back & Relax…Really! iGrow is easy to use. Simply place the iGrow on your head, select one of the 5 pre-programmed sessions and then sit back and relax. Plus it has built in headphones that allow you to hook up for you MP3 Player or iPod to play music. iGrow should be used 2 -3 times a week on nonconsecutive days for 20 -25 minutes at a time.

How Long Until I See Results? With regular use of iGrow, individuals can expect to see a gradual improvement in hair condition within a 12-week period. For best results, one should continue to use the iGrow system for 24 weeks. Since hair loss is a progressive condition, you should continue sessions once or twice per week after the initial 6 month period to continue seeing hair restoration.

Meet Our Newest Aesthetician: Emily Rodrigues

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?  I’m originally from Wisconsin and moved to Austin in 1987.  I lived in Austin up until a year ago when I moved to Katy with my family

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO INTO DERMATOLOGY? I had such bad acne when I got to college that I tried to hide it with sun tanning which was a huge mistake!  By my early 20’s my skin was a total wreck and I started seeing an aesthetician.  She opened my eyes to a whole new part of dermatology I had never known existed. Now I love fixing skin issues, and in essence my job feels like I am paying it forward. I help people feel better about their skin and looks, it is very rewarding and motivating.

WHAT ASPECTS DO YOU LOVE?  I love taking someone’s skin issues and improving them.  I know what a relief it was when my skin starting improving and I love doing that for someone else.  It’s such a gratifying feeling.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AS AN AESTHETICIAN? I’m very results oriented, and experience has taught me which treatments will work best.  I am always aiming at making a positive change in your skin whether it’s through chemical peels, laser treatments or just prescribing a great skincare regimen.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING AND WHERE?  I came from Westlake Dermatology in Austin and have been a licensed medical aesthetician since 2001.  I was very lucky to have had the training I received throughout the years and look forward to sharing my knowledge with my patients here in Houston & Katy.

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS ARE YOU APART OF? I’m a member of the American Association for Esthetics Education, Aesthetics International Association, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.  I believe that on-going education is important in the art of skin care, so I enjoy attending seminars and conferences annually to broaden my knowledge of the skincare industry.

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL MOTTO? Live life like there is no tomorrow.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOU LOVE ABOUT HOUSTON?   I love the Downtown Aquarium, Crave cupcakes and I am especially excited that Houston will be hosting Super Bowl 51.

SOMETHING YOU FEEL PASSIONATE ABOUT….   I feel most passionate about being a mom to my two year old daughter.  She was a miracle and I’ve never been so in love!

Plagues of Being Blonde…

If you’ve blessed with fair skin and light hair you know that a dab of eye liner or a streak of mascara can instantly take your eyes from homely to stunning. Unlike our dark haired/dark lashes friends, many light haired women know that the appearance of nearly invisible blonde eyelashes or eyebrows can make getting ready much more difficult. But fret no more, we have a solution for you. Eyelash and eyebrow tinting could be just the pizzazz you’ve been waiting for!

Tinting blonde eyelashes a darker color leaves them looking more visible. This is the best kept beauty secret to help frame and enhance the depth of your facial features. Same goes for your brows, tinting them a darker color allows them to be more striking making your eyes pop and sparkle!

What’s the procedure? The entire lash tinting process takes approximately ten to fifteen minutes. First, special stickers are placed around the eyelids to prevent the dye from reaching the actual eye. Next, the dye is applied carefully to the upper and lower lashes. The dye must then set for at least five minutes to penetrate the lashes. Finally, the dye is washed away and the lashes are left darker.

How Long Does it Last? Since lash tinting is done with vegetable-oil based dyes, it is not a permanent solution. The lashes will stay dark for about 3 to 5 weeks.

What colors do you have? We offer variety of colors to match different skin types, our most popular colors are brown, black and black-blue.

But I’m not blonde… Don’t worry, the perks of tinting are easily transferable. Got a big summer vacation coming up? Skip putting on the mascara in the morning or looking washed out in photos, choosing a black dye on darker eyelashes gives the appearance of having mascara on, without the clumps or mess! Plus, if it is a water bound trip there’s no fear of coming in and out of the water with black smears running down your face.

Are your eye brows looking sparse? Tinting can help bring your brows back to life. A well-define brow can polish every look. Plus tinting can help flatter your hair and skin tones bring a more natural, balanced look.
